Jim,
I have a myriad of questions, however I’ll try to keep this short.
What I am looking for, is a company that can A) Supply me with CNG kits and B) Give me timely support if/when needed.
The short version of my story is that I plan to do this as a business, and am now putting all my ducks in a row.
I am a qualified mechanic, for 40 yrs. and coming out of retirement to do this, because I see it as a worthy venture. Money is important mostly to the extent that it has to support itself. I do not plan on doing the future conversions myself, as I am planning to do so at present. But I want to train employees for the job etc.
Can you help or guide me to someone who may assist me?
Hi Larry,
I’m from Trinidad an i imported a V8 Titan here but i’m having problems installing CNG in the Vehicle since no one seems to know how to do it and the Gas price is so expensive here. Is there any advice that you can give to me to help me install it???
Hi jim ,I wana know should the air intake restricted for G-10 Suzuki engine with carburettor. If yes how much the air intake should be blocked 50% or 70% or any other % . I will appreciate your response.
From my article CNG Conversions Explained:
In the beginning the EPA wanted Cleaner Air (The Clean Air Act)(1). They targeted some cities that did not meet their “standards”(2) and asked them to clean up their air. With the power of the Clean Air Act the EPA was now in a position to offer a solution. They then mandated that some“Covered Fleets”(3) should “convert” a certain percentage(4) of their vehicles to AFV (Alternative Fuel Vehicles) thus helping the air quality. They offered to “Certify” CNG conversions(5) through a process already in place which was being used by new vehicle manufacturers. This would be good for the Fleets, if their conversions were EPA approved this would make them eligible for Federal and State rebates(6) and Incentives.
Jim,
Keep up the good work; I get really pissed at the self-serving jerks on that other site. Just curious which kits you sell and approx cost w/o tanks. I have seen a few Galileo kits available on ebay. I do have a Ford compuvalve system available but not particularly enamored with them. I also have a wide band analyzer and a programmable chip for the Ford products,
Im seriously thinking of converting an Expedition or TownCar,, and possibly a tricked out (turbocharged) Mustang to go with a pair of bifuel F150’s daily beaters Ive driven for 3 years now. Ive become a real fan of cng!
Jim,
I was told that you provided some sort of training in the CNG area. Is this a fact. Please let me know and give me some further contact information.
Thanks.

last month we spoke on the phone about converting a Prius Hybrid. My wife does not like the Prius, (nor did my 1st wife for that matter). After some shopping around she has agreed to a Highlander Hybrid. Originally you were concerned with the space a tank would occupy in the Prius so I’m guessing the Highlander SUV would be better for the conversion. Hybrid conversions have been done overseas like in the UK and I’m hoping to do it here. In our area we are lucky to have the Haynesville Shale production and CNG quick fill stations. Also, I’ll be using a slow fill in our home. We haven’t bought the Highlander yet but it will probably be a 2008 or 2009. An estimate is appreciated. Please include tank options. I really admire how you run your business. Thank you

Lee County Republican wanting to introduce HB 70 to Iowa Congress. Have contacted 2 people which said it will have to be done next fall. need to prepare now. how can i get info on how Utah went around the EPA to allow noncertified EPA kits and get some competion going to reduce the CNG conversions?
Would be interested in having a CNG business here in Iowa.
where can i get detail about CNG. had an agument at LCR meeting last niight of which one member said there is not enough BTU’s to give you proper power W/O loss of mileage.
i am an HVAC contractor and have worked with natural gas for over 30 years. i like N.G. products!
any help you might be able to give me or point me in the right diirection[s] would be much appreciated.

i have a 94 ram250 van thats dual fuel gas and cng factory installed or so i was told, the tanks underneath have expiration of 2009 can i get them tested to extend the expiration date or buy new tanks. or will it even be an issue. it has an hr meter and has only been used cng 21 hrs to the gas side used 2000+hrs (if original meters) the system has been charged and no leaks and works great. just wondering about the tanks.
Rich, where do you live? Are the tanks steel or composite? The decision is up to you, some tank inspectors may say they are fine if they are type I or type II.
Hey Jim,
I have a 2001 chevy cavalier, and was running on cng, it lost all power and died. pulled the cng fuse and it ran fine, then the check engine light came on. Ran some seafoam through it and the light went away. the light came back on about a thousand miles later. still will not run well on cng. The codes it is pulling is P0140(O2 sensor issue) and P0742(tcc issue). Where should I start?
It depends on where you live, I charge $1500 labor plus kit, tank and tank bracket, a sequential kit is $2400, an aspirated system is $700, the tank can be anywhere from $1000 on up depending pon the size and whether it it new or used.
How hard is it to convert a 70’s Ford pickup to CNG? Since it is carbureted and has no electronics, it would seem to me to be very simple. I live in Ogden, UT, from what I’ve read I assume your from around these parts too. What issues am I going to have to deal with getting my truck registered and emmission tested? Why don’t more people do conversions like these on pre-OBDII vehicles? From my perspective I’m going to be spending $1000 on a truck, $500+ on a kit and $1000 on Tanks. Add to that a rebuild and some upgrades and your looking at a nice classic truck for less than $5000. Sounds like a good idea to me, but then again, I’ve never been afraid to get my hands dirty either.
Jim,
I am an automobile dealer with interest in retro-fitting used cars with CNG systems (to the public for a profit). From your information, it would be for intermediate aged (still w/in useful life, but likely >current MY +2). I have talked with suppliers of conversion kits who are NOT EPA certified. They maintain that EPA certification is not necessary. I don’t beleive that to be the case. What are the legal requirements? The new or nearly new conversions that are EPA certified are both restrictive to very few vehicles & pricey…which seems counter intuitive to the endeavor to convert more vehicles to CNG. Can you help me understand what is required…I’m assuming non-certification could have liability &perhaps potential fines, etc. issues. Please enlighten me if you can.
Do you think that with the new rules, you can install a kit on an “out of service” vehicle and be legal? Assuming that you can pass an OBD test and an emissions test.
Jim, I have a99 f250 342 v8 cng only. It has a rough idle and the engine stumbles [misses] esp, below 40 mph the missing pulses are random with no rithym at 40 or 50 the trucks shakes and i must floor it to downshift to stop the shaking. it starts a few minutes after warmup the ses lighs and a po192 code “fuel rail pressure ckt, a low” is indicated . Any ideas? thanks Bill
I am interested in converting 2005 f 150 to a cng vehicle. Are there certain vehicles that are better than others? is this a good one? How much would it cost and are the sequential kits better than the aspirated or worse in your opinion?
Thanks

hi,i am newjersey and have limo business,we use lincoln town cars which have 4.6L,please send me detail priceing and saving on conversion.we dont have CNG station near by so i like both system gas and CNG .what is advantage if i convert the vehicle.
I am looking for a DielMax 5100 Software program installation CD with the Drivers for my laptop(s) I have two (2) laptops and two (2) operating systems; a Windows 98 XP Pro and a Windows 7.I already have 2 Diel 4590 conversion kits that I need to program. I am willing to pay a reasonable charge for the original DielMax 5100 Software with operating Drivers. Email address is: rlstewart@crosstel.net.
I got a quick question. Im having trouble finding a kit for my truck. I have a 2005 chevrolet 2500 with an 8.1 vortec. Ive looked around a bit and i was wondeeing if it would even be possible and worth while in the long run to save a bit on fuel? Im looking for a dual fuel system to run gas as well as cng. Is this possible!?
I have a 06 Dodge Cummins Diesel. Can you recommend a kit for me? Also, please explain the advantages/disadvantages of a programable unit.
If I purchase a used tank, what should I look for and what should I avoid? I assume that If I purchase a used tank, I will need to purchase a valve? Is that true? If so, what type of valve do I need?
Jim,
I have a 2008 Scion XD hatchback. Most conversions put the tank in the trunk. Is a hatchback a bad idea for CNG conversion?

Jim, I have a 05′ Nissan Titan, I would like to make it a bi-fuel with CNG, I live in Tulsa, OK. Is there a kit? How much would it cost for everything? How hard would it be to install myself? Do you have detailed/picture instructions and such? Thank You
I have a Duramax. I’m installing CNG. I was told to use two CNG regulators due to the size of my engine. Do I need two regulators? If so, do I connect the low pressure CNG vapor lines together and run a single 3/4 inch vapor hose into my air intake? Or should I run a separate vapor hose from each regulator?
I just received two used tanks in which have PRDs mounted, but no Port diagrams came with them. The PRDs are marked as follows
GFI
1702X1F
217F CG-9 PRD
2C24-9C121-AA
MW1I10592
3600 PSIG 12 V
The PRD is 6 sided
There are 3 threaded ports on a 6 sided block.
Looking at the front of the block and going clockwise it is configured as follows
1st side Threaded port
2nd side Blank
3rd side Threaded port
4th side Threaded port
5th side Blank
6th side Blank
Can you please identify the ports.
I have searched the web for info but cannot find anything.
I have a 2003 Dodge 2500 Ram Van w a dedicated CNG Factory Conversion. Not getting fuel, seems to be a regulator problem.
Any idea which system was used in 2003?
Do you have a replacement Regulator with installation instructions?
Hey you can usually find regulators on eBay etc. it should not be an issue to use an aftermarket regulator with a dedicated NGV system if you find one with the proper output capability. Does that help?
I am working on a newer Jeep. The OEM 02 sensor is not the normal type with the =/- 0.5 volt range.
Replaced the OEM sensor with a basic sensor to wire to the aspirated kit. The basic sensor now produces a constant high voltage.
Two questions (1) is there any easy way to solve this wiring mess? (2) could the TPS connection serve as an alternative to the O2 sensor here? I have not wired it.
How has your experience been with EWS kits? Their cheap filling nozzle had a hairline fracture on the kit I bought. And they seem more concerned with profits than paying to hire a few techs to answer calls – leaving everyone stranded when there are questions installing.
What about other kits that are low cost? Are any superior to EWS in terms of safety and quality?
We are driving a 2000 Ford F-150 Dual Fuel. After filling the CNG tank we can’t get it to switch from gasoline to CNG. What is the proper procedure for getting it to run on CNG? It was running fine on the previous tank & then when we filled up we cpuldn’t get it to use the CNG tank again.
I have a Chevy 2500 5.7l and I’m not sure what the part is but it’s on the passenger side in the engine compartment. It’s like a selenoid with a two wire connector coming of it. It starts leaking once the key turns to accessory. Any info will help
Hey Jim,
im writing to you from India. I own a 2005 suzuki swift, i have recently converted it to CNG. The problem is that the car isnt giving good fuel economy. And when it shows MAP sensor malfunctioning only in gas. If i clear the DTC, and run on petrol, the MIL doesnt come on. but as soon as i change to gas, the same DTC code comes up. MAP pressure low. if i clear the code and run the car on petrol, the code does not come back. but come back as soon as i change to gas and rev the engine, its back on.
The mileage on CNG is also extremely low, when compared to my friend’s car(same) and which also uses the same kit.
my kit is a closed loop, with a timing advancer processor, lambda control module and emulator.
Hello Jim this is Bill from South Texas CNG . I have a 2001 f-150 bi-fuel cng. I’m looking for a regulator Diaphragm leaking and hoping you might be of help. Thank You in advance
I want to know which is the cng fuse in a gmc savana 2001 bifuel, is weird, i know the tanks are empty but when i try to fill up the station pump it says is full , can it be the fuse? the panel does not show or tell me which one is it . thank you
Hi Jim,
I am currently running on a, “Techforgas”, sequential injection system. Where can I get replacement parts? I’m having trouble contacting the factory. My supplier is also having trouble contacting them. Thanks.
Do you replace expired Type 4 cylinders in Honda Civic GX dedicated CNG cars? If you do, what would be the cost in parts and labor (please quote only with Type 4 cylinder, 8 gge, 37 x 18 inches). Thank you.
It has been a while since I checked on the price of the tank but I think it was around $2000, I can put it in for $400, if you want a firm price on the tank E mail me at younkin@gmail.com
Recently had my 04 silverado converted, the serv tech stated my regulator was leaking, and gave me my truck back, when i went to put CNG in the tank the pump acted as if it couldn’t ,did the serv tech turn the manuel valve off at the tank for safety reasons ,I cannot get in touch with him because he is out of town
Updated ;he did have the tank manually valved off ,to stay in compliance, one of the CNG injectors is delievering to much CNG to the engine cylinder ,(it is not pulsating) and needs to be replaced .the trouble is ,its a Bosch injector for a 2004 Chevrolet silverado 4.3L V-6 and they have stopped making them ,Can you help ?
Hey, i don’t know if your still answering questions, but i’ve been looking all over the internet for sport car models of cng vehicles and was wondering if there was any sort of hope for a power increase in a multipoint electronic fuel injection system. It has turbo charges so even if i can’t advance the timing i may be able to increase the psi. But because the octane level is so high is there any possibilty of advancing the timing and getting equal or more power out of the fuel.
Can a failed Compuvalve system be replace with components from your kits. I am considering buying a Ford Contour CNG that works well with gas but the CNG system is not working. The advantage may be that the tank is functional. Do you install components at your shop on an hourly or fixed rate?
Jim, I am new to your site and have done about an hour’s worth of browsing, so I hope I am not asking a question that you have already covered. Have you ever documented a case where the EPA has actually cited an organization or individual for “tampering” as related to CNG conversions?
Jim,
My question is the same as someone by name Larry :
What I am looking for is a company that can A) Supply me with CNG kits and B) Give me timely support if/when needed.C) If a need a certificate or something to do the installation legally
The short version of my story is that I plan to do this as a business
Can you help or guide me to someone who may assist me?
I live in California and want to covert a 2008 Ford F350 5.4 V8 to Cng. Too many regulations make is very expensive here. Can i register my truck out of state, convert it, then granfather it back to Califonia? Im trapped….I need help with a more affordable solution.
I have a Cng 1999 Ford F 150, the system it came with from the dealer is obsolete, would it be cheaper to just install a new system? Since it is already and gasoline. Being that the tank and line are already there?
I purchsed a 2001 Silverado with a CNG kit already installed, iy worked great. It wasn’t long before the regulator went bad so I purchased another one. It never worked well so I now have another one and I’m unhappy ith it also. I’m starting to think I won’t ever find a good replacement. Any recommendations?
I purchased two Ford F-250 trucks dedicated CNG 5.4L engines. They use a 3000 psi system. My tanks have expired. I am having a hard time finding 3000 psi tanks. Most now are 3600. Can I install 3600 PSI tanks, and put a regulator between the tanks and the system to drop the pressue to 3000, and run that setup? I am also finding some stations only have 3600 psi, so I can’t fill up with my existing system. Thanks.
So the only limiting factor is the lines? Under the hood, it states that it is only a 3000 PSI system. But if my lines are stainless, the original regulator will handle the 3600 PSI pressures if I upgrade to those tanks? Thanks.
Jim: I would like to better understand the EPA certification issue. I spent considerable time reading the “Final Rule” from EPA and found it to be cumbersome and confusing. I’m going to go through it again but would like to get your view on converting an over the road truck that has more than 430,000 miles on it. It looks like I can avoid tampering if I don’t change the fuel map, emissions equipment etc and have a tail pipe test sent to EPA. THis test would show lower emissons than 100% diesel so I could potenially be “home free”?
Jim I cant seem to find the answer to these questions no matter where I look on the web. First I want to convert a 2005 Chevy 5.3 do I just need a regular kit or do I need the sequential kit ? Then once I get it installed does the computer need to be retuned or does the box that comes in the kit take care of all parameters ? the mechanical does not bother me, the electrical (I.E. computer) is what I’m having issues getting my head around. Any help or advice would be greatly app.
Jim I have been in the mechanics field for decades also. I’m currently looking to venture into cng. Between Craigslist and eBay and your site I have located most items necessary. But I cannot locate an NGV-1 filling nozzle. I have Aeroquip hose making equipment and can purchase cng hose and fittings, but other than China type brokers, little shows up under cng filler nozzles. Thanks Allen
I have bought a used CNG fleet truck, 2000 Ford F-150, my question is: where is the CNG tank and how can i tell how much it will hold? I was very impressed with that capability, but I do not want to go to fill the CNG tank and it not actually be there.I did watch a training video on youtube, but I am still not sure if the fill station would tell me if there is no tank. I also was reading how the straps for the tanks have been rusting and breaking and dropping the tanks, so I want to reinforce it before I fill it. The closest station is 40 miles from me and I’d hate to have it fall off half way home.
Jim
I have an old CAR. EE111 engine 1996 model 1330 CC. My problem is when I drive the car in CNG mode with AC on, at low speed such as in traffic jam, or when I break, Engine stops with vibration. This happens only when engine is in hot condition (after running 30/40 km). In gasoline mode there is no problem. Please suggest me in this regard.

Hi Jim,
I am student and I am doing some research on CNG for heavy duty farm equipement. I am in California and it seems to be a lot of regulations?
Is it possible to convert a Deisel Farm Tractor to CNG? Drawbacks? Positives?

Hi jim ,I wana know should the air intake restricted for G-10 Suzuki engine with carburettor. If yes how much the air intake should be blocked 50% or 70% or any other % . I will appreciate your response.
As far as I know there are no regulations for forklifts except NFPA safety regulations, Jim
What makes you think there would be a problem?

I’m trying to decide what car/ SUV to do a conversion on:
I’ve heard that the car should be newer than two years, not sure why?
Thinking about a Ford Edge, or a GMC Acadia
or a
Toyota Camry or similar sedan.
Are there better vehicles to do a conversion on?
Does it matter how many miles are on the car?
I’m Colorado.

I have a 2008 Scion XD hatchback. Most conversions put the tank in the trunk. Is a hatchback a bad idea for CNG conversion?
Thanks,

Any car will work, the smaller cars will have less room for tanks, Jim
Jim, I have a 05′ Nissan Titan, I would like to make it a bi-fuel with CNG, I live in Tulsa, OK. Is there a kit? How much would it cost for everything? How hard would it be to install myself? Do you have detailed/picture instructions and such? Thank You
Jim,
I have a Duramax. I’m installing CNG. I was told to use two CNG regulators due to the size of my engine. Do I need two regulators? If so, do I connect the low pressure CNG vapor lines together and run a single 3/4 inch vapor hose into my air intake? Or should I run a separate vapor hose from each regulator?
we are looking for one of these. could you call 405-517-5004?
thanks
John
Jim,
I just received two used tanks in which have PRDs mounted, but no Port diagrams came with them. The PRDs are marked as follows
GFI
1702X1F
217F CG-9 PRD
2C24-9C121-AA
MW1I10592
3600 PSIG 12 V
The PRD is 6 sided
There are 3 threaded ports on a 6 sided block.
Looking at the front of the block and going clockwise it is configured as follows
1st side Threaded port
2nd side Blank
3rd side Threaded port
4th side Threaded port
5th side Blank
6th side Blank
Can you please identify the ports.
I have searched the web for info but cannot find anything.
Thank You
Dan
I have a 2003 Dodge 2500 Ram Van w a dedicated CNG Factory Conversion. Not getting fuel, seems to be a regulator problem.
Any idea which system was used in 2003?
Do you have a replacement Regulator with installation instructions?
Hey you can usually find regulators on eBay etc. it should not be an issue to use an aftermarket regulator with a dedicated NGV system if you find one with the proper output capability. Does that help?
Jim,
Hope this finds you well.
Thank you so much.
Found a solution by buying a better kit (see ews below)
Hi,
I am working in cng vehicles.i need to knoe one thing how can we increse the fuel economy of cng vehicles.
Hey Jim,
im writing to you from India.
What kind of system is it?
Hello Jim this is Bill from South Texas CNG . I have a 2001 f-150 bi-fuel cng. I’m looking for a regulator Diaphragm leaking and hoping you might be of help. Thank You in advance
What system is it?
I want to know which is the cng fuse in a gmc savana 2001 bifuel, is weird, i know the tanks are empty but when i try to fill up the station pump it says is full , can it be the fuse? the panel does not show or tell me which one is it . thank you
What brand of system is it?
Hi Jim,
I am currently running on a, “Techforgas”, sequential injection system. Where can I get replacement parts? I’m having trouble contacting the factory. My supplier is also having trouble contacting them. Thanks.
Louie
I do not know of any Techforgas parts avalaible
Is the number of US CNG-conversion companies converting new or used fleet vehicles to CNG rising, and how do we know how many there are?
You can get a list of EPA Certified systems from the EPA, all other aftermarket converters you would have to find in their local areas
That may be the case, do you have a valve on your filler?
I would have to look at the car, it may be possible
so are multipoint electronic fuel injection cars a good choice for a CNG conversion or should it be converted to sequencial fuel injection
Jim, I am new to your site and have done about an hour’s worth of browsing, so I hope I am not asking a question that you have already covered. Have you ever documented a case where the EPA has actually cited an organization or individual for “tampering” as related to CNG conversions?
There are none that I know of
Jim,
My question is the same as someone by name Larry :
What I am looking for is a company that can A) Supply me with CNG kits and B) Give me timely support if/when needed.C) If a need a certificate or something to do the installation legally
The short version of my story is that I plan to do this as a business
Can you help or guide me to someone who may assist me?
I can sell you aspirated and sequential kits, I give tech support. I am not sure what you mean by legal conversion?
I live in California and want to covert a 2008 Ford F350 5.4 V8 to Cng. Too many regulations make is very expensive here. Can i register my truck out of state, convert it, then granfather it back to Califonia? Im trapped….I need help with a more affordable solution.
Thank you
Give me a call, we can work out some options, Jim

I have a Cng 1999 Ford F 150, the system it came with from the dealer is obsolete, would it be cheaper to just install a new system? Since it is already and gasoline. Being that the tank and line are already there?
I purchsed a 2001 Silverado with a CNG kit already installed, iy worked great. It wasn’t long before the regulator went bad so I purchased another one. It never worked well so I now have another one and I’m unhappy ith it also. I’m starting to think I won’t ever find a good replacement. Any recommendations?
What was the brand of your system? What brand of regulator did you use?
I purchased two Ford F-250 trucks dedicated CNG 5.4L engines. They use a 3000 psi system. My tanks have expired. I am having a hard time finding 3000 psi tanks. Most now are 3600. Can I install 3600 PSI tanks, and put a regulator between the tanks and the system to drop the pressue to 3000, and run that setup? I am also finding some stations only have 3600 psi, so I can’t fill up with my existing system. Thanks.
If your lines are stainless you should be able to use 3600psi
The EPA writes regulations so we wont understand them. They are becoming irrelevant anyway.
Either kit would be fine, you tune the CNG system after it is installed, the cars computer does not need to be tuned.
Is there a kit for my 2000 Lexus ES300 with VVT-i thank you.
